The twins%u2019 Mum sent Susie a text - she had heard the news on the radio.%u201cR U ALL OK? XX%u201d it said.%u201cYES. DONT WORRY, WE R ALL FINE XX %u201c replied Susie, although she wasn%u2019t exactly sure.The lane had flooded before, Susie had received warnings fromthe Environment Agency, where Ben and Thomas%u2019 dad Mark worked, that it was likely to flood again this year. It was these warnings that prompted Susie, Ricky the greengrocer and the local community to prepare for the worst. Two weekends ago they all got together to make wooden flood boards for their doors. Susie helped Ricky fill old vegetable sacks from the shop with sand, to make sand bags. These would also help to hold back the flood water.14
